MindPlay
What is MindPlay?
Why a Drama Competition? MindPlay was launched in 1997 with the aim of engaging school students in mental health issues, through a format that would be accessible and relevant to them. Given that one in five Australians will experience a mental illness at some point in their lifetime, MindPlay was seen as an opportunity for young people to safely put a voice to the mental health issues that they witness, hear about and possibly even experience first hand. The Aim of MindPlay MindPlay has been developed for the purpose of engaging school students in mental health issues, through a format that is accessible and relevant to them. It has been seen as an opportunity for young people to safely put a voice to the mental health issues that they witness, hear about and possibly even experience first hand at some point in their lifetime.

MindPlay is a school drama competition for Year 11 students from the Hunter, Central Coast and Manning regions. Students are required to research, write and perform a 15 minute drama piece on a mental health topic of their choice. Topics may cover a particular mental health issue, the impact of an illness on family/friends, recovery from an illness, or any other broad mental health issue. The competition involves an Audition Round followed by a Grand Final. The top three performances will be awarded prize money which can be used by schools in anyway to benefit their students and school community. |
